This $31.6 million renovation and expansion project features an aquarium with fifteen saltwater and freshwater tanks of varying sizes, highlighting ecosystems from around the world such as a live Indo-Pacific coral reef, and North Carolina coastal habitats. The aquarium has a touch pool, and interactive lab where children can view and learn about different aquatic species. Tenji’s design makes it possible for the museum staff to change out displays to what is interesting and current. Tenji also created a behind-the-scenes service area to house a quarantine room, and algae and plankton cultures.
